About IGR

The Department of Registration and Stamps has a vast expanse in the state of Maharashtra and is the 2nd highest revenue earning department of the state, has 412 offices managed by 2500 employees. The annual revenue collection is RS. _______ /- crores in terms of stamp Duty and Registration fees. The mandate to this department is Registration of deeds or instruments and their preservation.The Registration process encompasses the sub-functions such as receipt generation, valuation, recovery of evaded stamp duty, refund of excess stamp duty, adjudication and issuing notices.

In a bold IT initiative taken by the department, all the 360 sub registrar offices, 31 district level offices , 9 division level and the Head Quarter at Pune have been computerised and automated. The project is called SARITA ( Stamps and Registration Information Technology based Administration) which encompasses the entire state of Maharashtra and is operational since January 2001. Till date close to 2.2 million documents have been registered across the state and revenue handled is Rs. 5000 crores. Approximately 8 million people are direct beneficiaries of SARITA annually which has seen innovative application of the Public- Private partnership in betterment of quality of service given to millions.
